Castello di Cassino Scanasio
Rozzano, Italy, Italy
Castello di Cassino Scanasio, also known as the Castle of Rozzano, is a medieval fortress located in the hamlet of Cassino Scanasio near Rozzano, south of Milan.
Its origins may trace back to the 11th century, although most of the structures visible today date from the 14th and 15th centuries, when it served as a strategic defensive outpost protecting the countryside and approaches to Milan. The castle has a rectangular layout with an inner courtyard, brick walls, and four corner towers.
Originally surrounded by a water-filled moat and accessed by a drawbridge, it was later transformed from a military stronghold into a noble country residence, particularly under the Trivulzio family during the 16th century. Over the centuries, the property passed through several noble families, including the Pirovano, Della Croce, and Visconti di Modrone families.
