Castello di Cavriana is a medieval fortress located on a hill overlooking the town of Cavriana in Lombardy.

Its origins likely date to the 11th century, and it became one of the most important defensive strongholds in the Mantua area, protecting the region and serving as a key part of the Gonzaga defensive network against rival powers such as the Visconti of Milan. Under the Gonzaga family, the castle was expanded and transformed into an elegant residence as well as a fortress.

Important figures such as Francesco I Gonzaga and Isabella d’Este stayed there, and renowned artists and architects contributed to its development. The castle declined during the 17th and 18th centuries and was largely demolished under Austrian rule. Today, only parts of the defensive walls and a surviving tower, later converted into a bell tower, remain. These restored remnants continue to symbolize Cavriana’s rich medieval and Renaissance heritage.
