Castello di Chignolo Po is one of Lombardy’s most impressive historic residences, often nicknamed the “Versailles of Lombardy” because of its grandeur, elegant gardens, and richly decorated interiors.

Its origins date back to the early Middle Ages, when it served as a fortress along the important Via Francigena pilgrimage route. Over the centuries, the castle passed through the hands of influential families, including the Pusterla, Visconti, and Cusani families. In the early 18th century, Cardinal Agostino Cusani Visconti transformed the medieval stronghold into a magnificent Baroque residence with lavish halls, extensive parkland, and refined architectural features. 

The castle hosted notable figures such as popes, emperors, and Napoleon Bonaparte, reflecting its importance in Italian history. Today, it is open to visitors and is admired for its blend of medieval fortifications, aristocratic elegance, and cultural heritage.
