Castello di Cly is a medieval castle ruin located on a rocky hill above Saint-Denis in Italy’s Aosta Valley.

Dating back to at least the 11th century, it is considered one of the oldest castles in the region and was built in a strategic position to oversee the valley and important travel routes. Originally owned by the powerful Challant family and later controlled by the House of Savoy, the castle served as both a defensive stronghold and an administrative center.

Its design features a central keep surrounded by protective walls, a characteristic example of early Alpine military architecture. Although now largely in ruins, Castello di Cly remains a fascinating historic landmark. Its dramatic hilltop setting, panoramic views of the Aosta Valley, and rich medieval history make it an important symbol of the region’s heritage.
