Castello di Domofole is a medieval fortress located on a hill above the village of Mello in Lombardy’s Valtellina region.

First mentioned in documents dating back to the 11th century, it was an important stronghold of the powerful Vicedomini family and occupied a strategic position overlooking the lower Valtellina valley. The castle was damaged during conflicts between Guelphs and Ghibellines in the late Middle Ages, rebuilt, and eventually dismantled in 1524.

Today, the most prominent surviving feature is its imposing square stone tower, along with sections of the defensive walls and nearby religious structures. Domofole is also known for local legends linking it to imprisoned queens and princesses, adding a sense of mystery to its history. Restored and accessible to visitors, the site is valued for its medieval heritage, panoramic views, and scenic setting on the Costiera dei Cech.
