Castello di Francavilla Fontana, also known as Castello Imperiali, is a historic castle-palace located in the heart of Francavilla Fontana in Puglia.

Originally built in the mid-15th century as a defensive fortress by Giovanni Antonio Orsini del Balzo, it was strategically positioned along the ancient route between Taranto and Brindisi. Over the centuries, it was expanded and transformed from a military stronghold into an elegant noble residence.

The castle is particularly associated with the powerful Imperiali family, who ruled the area from the late 16th to the 18th century and enriched the building with Baroque architectural features and luxurious interiors. Its design today reflects a blend of medieval fortifications, Renaissance influences, and aristocratic grandeur. 

Following restoration, the castle has become one of the town’s main cultural landmarks. It is open to visitors and houses the Archaeological Museum of Francavilla Fontana, offering insight into the region’s history while showcasing the building’s impressive architecture.
