Castello di Gagliano Aterno is a well-preserved medieval castle that overlooks the village of Gagliano Aterno in Italy’s Abruzzo region.

Built between the late 12th and early 13th centuries by the powerful Berardi family, Counts of Marsi, it was later expanded in 1328 by Countess Isabella d'Aquino and became one of the most important strongholds in the Subequana Valley. Throughout its history, the castle passed through the hands of several noble families, including the Celano, Piccolomini, Barberini, and Colonna families.

It suffered damage during a siege in 1462 but was subsequently restored and strengthened with additional defensive walls. The castle is notable for its moat, drawbridge, double ring of walls, cylindrical towers, and elegant residential quarters arranged around a central courtyard. Today, it remains a striking landmark and one of the finest examples of medieval and Renaissance fortified architecture in Abruzzo.
