Castello di Graines is a medieval castle ruin located on a rocky promontory above Brusson in the Val d’Ayas area of Italy’s Aosta Valley.

Dating back to around the 11th century, it was built in a highly strategic position that allowed it to oversee the valley and important routes through the surrounding mountains. For centuries, the castle was associated with the powerful Challant family and played a role in regional conflicts and feudal administration.

Although much of the fortress has disappeared, its imposing square tower, defensive walls, and the remains of a Romanesque chapel dedicated to Saint Martin still survive. Today, Castello di Graines is one of the most picturesque historic sites in the Aosta Valley. Its dramatic setting, rich history, and panoramic views of the surrounding Alpine landscape make it a popular destination for visitors interested in medieval heritage and nature.
