Castello di Grinzane Cavour
Italy, Italy
Castello di Grinzane Cavour is a historic medieval castle in the heart of the Langhe wine region of Piedmont, surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills.
Built around the 11th to 14th centuries, it became closely associated with Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour, one of the key figures in the unification of Italy, who lived there and served as mayor of Grinzane from 1832 to 1849. The castle is renowned for its imposing architecture, historic rooms, and the celebrated Sala delle Maschere, decorated with a remarkable painted wooden ceiling.
It also houses the Langhe Museum and the Regional Enoteca, which showcases the area's famous wines, including Barolo and Barbaresco. Today, Castello di Grinzane Cavour is one of the most important cultural landmarks in Piedmont. It is part of the UNESCO-listed Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont and serves as a symbol of the region’s history, wine heritage, and rural traditions.
