Castello di Milazzo is a vast fortified citadel overlooking the town of Milazzo and the Tyrrhenian Sea in northeastern Sicily.

Built on a strategic hilltop that has been occupied since prehistoric times, the site was successively used and expanded by the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans, Swabians, Aragonese, and Spanish, making it one of Sicily’s most historically layered monuments. The castle evolved from an ancient acropolis into a major medieval fortress and later a powerful Renaissance citadel.

Its defensive walls, towers, gates, and bastions were continually strengthened over the centuries due to the site's importance in controlling sea routes and protecting one of Sicily’s finest natural harbors. Today, Castello di Milazzo is the largest fortified complex in Sicily and one of the island’s most impressive landmarks. Visitors can explore its extensive fortifications, historic buildings, and panoramic viewpoints while discovering a history that spans thousands of years.
