Castello di Monte Tanano
Italy, Italy
Castello di Monte Tanano is the ruin of a medieval fortress located near Varese Ligure in Liguria.
Built in the 13th century by the powerful Fieschi family, it occupied a strategic hilltop position overlooking important routes between Liguria, the Taro Valley, and the Po Plain, making it a key defensive and control point. The castle was the site of several regional conflicts before being deliberately destroyed in 1492 to prevent its use by enemies.
Today, only ruins remain, but the site is valued for its historical significance, scenic views over the surrounding valleys, and its connection to the medieval history of the region.
