Castello di Montegiove is a historic medieval castle located on a hill near Montegabbione in the Province of Terni, Umbria.

Built in the 13th century by the Bulgarelli family, it stands on a site associated with an ancient Roman temple dedicated to Jupiter, from which the name “Montegiove” is derived. Over the centuries, the castle was expanded and strengthened as military technology evolved, with new towers, thicker walls, and defensive structures added during periods of regional conflict.

As its strategic importance declined, it gradually transformed from a fortress into an aristocratic residence, gaining gardens and decorative features while retaining its medieval character. Today, Castello di Montegiove remains one of Umbria’s most impressive historic estates. Surrounded by vineyards, forests, and rolling countryside, it is known for its well-preserved architecture, rich history, wine production, and panoramic views of the Umbrian landscape.
