Castello di Montegufoni is a historic castle located near Montespertoli, about 20 kilometers south of Florence, in the heart of Tuscany.

Its origins likely date to the 10th or 11th century, when it was first built by the noble Ormanni family before being destroyed and later rebuilt by the powerful Acciaioli family, who transformed it into one of the region’s most important noble residences. Throughout the Middle Ages and Renaissance, the castle was closely linked to influential political and banking families.

Its commanding position along the historic route between Florence and Volterra gave it strategic importance, and over time it developed into a large fortified complex dominated by its distinctive tower. Today, Castello di Montegufoni is renowned for its blend of medieval and Renaissance architecture, its beautiful Tuscan setting, and its artistic heritage, including the famous “Sala delle Maschere” frescoed by Gino Severini in 1921.
