Castello di Montelabbate is a historic fortress in the Marche region that was originally built around the 11th or 12th century by the Benedictine abbots of the nearby Abbey of San Tommaso in Foglia.

It served as a defensive stronghold during conflicts between the neighboring powers of Pesaro and Urbino. After the decline of the monastery in the 15th century, the castle passed to the Malatesta family, who strengthened its defenses, restored its walls, and added a fortress. The site later became strategically important during the Battle of Monteluro in 1443 and was also favored as a residence by Costanzo Sforza.

Today, portions of the medieval walls and towers still survive, including a prominent eastern tower that remains the castle’s most recognizable feature. Although much of the original complex has been lost or fallen into ruin, the castle remains an important reminder of the region’s medieval history and noble heritage.
