Castello di Naro, also known as the Chiaramonte Castle, is a medieval fortress that overlooks the hilltop town of Naro in Sicily’s Agrigento province.

Originally built in the 12th century and extensively expanded during the 14th century under the powerful Chiaramonte family, it became one of the region’s most important defensive strongholds. The castle played a notable role in Sicilian history and was used by rulers of the Kingdom of Sicily, including King Frederick III of Aragon, who enlarged the fortress and added its impressive square tower.

Its fortified walls, cylindrical and square towers, large courtyard, chapel, and military quarters reflect its strategic and administrative importance during the Middle Ages. Today, Castello di Naro is one of Sicily’s best-known medieval landmarks. Standing prominently above the town, it offers visitors a glimpse into the island’s feudal past while providing panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and preserving an important part of Naro’s cultural heritage.
