Castello di Nibbiola
Nibbiola, Italy, Italy
Castello di Nibbiola is a historic brick castle located in the village of Nibbiola, near Novara in Piedmont.
Its current form dates mainly to the 15th and 16th centuries, although the site has earlier medieval origins and was developed by the influential Tornielli family as both a fortified residence and a defensive stronghold. The castle features a traditional quadrangular layout, corner towers, a moat, and one of the rare surviving drawbridges that still retains many of its original elements.
Over time, especially during the 18th century, the fortress was transformed into a more comfortable private residence while preserving much of its historic character. Today, Castello di Nibbiola remains one of the most distinctive landmarks in the Novara countryside. Surrounded by gardens and greenery, it is admired for its well-preserved medieval architecture and its role in the history of the region.
