Verified Castello di Orsara Bormida

Italy, Italy

Castello di Orsara Bormida is a medieval castle that stands on the highest hill in the village of Orsara Bormida, in Piedmont.

Originally built around a watchtower dating to about the year 1000, it was expanded between the 14th and 15th centuries and later transformed from a defensive fortress into an elegant noble residence. The castle is distinguished by its three towers: a large square tower, an octagonal tower, and a smaller cylindrical tower, all integrated into the historic defensive walls.

Inside, visitors can find period furnishings, frescoed rooms, majolica floors, and a garden with centuries-old trees. Over the centuries, the castle belonged to several noble families, including the Malaspina and Lodrone families, before becoming the property of the Remondini family. Today, it remains a well-preserved landmark that combines history, architecture, wine production, and cultural activities, offering a glimpse into the heritage of the Monferrato region.
