Castello di Ortona dei Marsi is a medieval castle overlooking the village of Ortona dei Marsi in Italy’s Abruzzo region.

Built in a strategic position between the Fucino Plateau and the Sagittario Valley, it helped control important routes through the area and was associated over the centuries with powerful families such as the Counts of Celano, the Cantelmo family, and later the Massimi family. Today, much of the original structure is in ruins, but its most prominent feature, a cylindrical tower added in the 16th century, remains well preserved.

The tower and surrounding walls overlook the Giovenco Valley, reflecting the castle’s defensive role and its importance in local feudal history. The castle is one of the main historic landmarks of Ortona dei Marsi and provides visitors with a glimpse into the region’s medieval past, along with impressive views of the surrounding mountains and countryside within the Abruzzo National Park area.
