Castello di Pontes
Italy, Italy
Castello di Pontes is a medieval fortress located near the town of Galtellì in eastern Sardinia, Italy.
Built around the 11th century on a hill overlooking the Cedrino Valley, it played an important strategic role in protecting routes between the coast and the island’s interior and was connected to the historic Judicate of Gallura. The castle was fought over during medieval conflicts and eventually came under Aragonese control before being abandoned in the 15th century.
Today, only ruins remain, including sections of walls, a tower, and ancient cisterns, but the site is renowned for its dramatic views and local legends. It was also made famous by Nobel Prize-winning author Grazia Deledda, who referenced the castle and its ghost stories in her novel Canne al Vento.
