Castello di Proceno is a historic medieval fortress located in the hilltop village of Proceno in the Province of Viterbo, near the border between Lazio and Tuscany.

Dating back to around the 10th or 11th century, it was built in a strategic position to control important routes through the region. Built mainly from local volcanic tuff stone, the castle features fortified walls, battlements, and several towers, including a prominent central tower that overlooks the surrounding landscape.

Over the centuries, it served both as a defensive stronghold and a noble residence. Today, Castello di Proceno remains the village’s most recognizable landmark and has been adapted for hospitality and cultural activities while preserving its historic character.
