Castello di Quarate is a historic medieval castle located in the hills south of Florence, near Bagno a Ripoli.

Built on the site of an earlier settlement that may have Roman origins, the castle is first documented in 1098 and became the seat of the influential Quaratesi family, from whom it takes its name. Originally designed as a fortified residence, the castle featured defensive walls, towers, a moat, and a central courtyard.

Its strategic location overlooking routes between Florence and the Chianti area made it an important stronghold during the Middle Ages. Today, the castle retains significant elements of its medieval architecture, including parts of its towers and fortified structure. Surrounded by the Tuscan countryside, it stands as a reminder of the region’s feudal history and noble families, while preserving much of its historic character.
