Verified Castello di Rivara

Italy, Italy

Castello di Rivara is a historic castle complex in the town of Rivara, in Piedmont, Italy, located about 30 kilometers from Turin.

The site consists of multiple buildings, including a medieval castle and a later neo-Baroque residence, with origins dating from the 12th to the 14th centuries. It was initially associated with the Counts of Valperga and played an important role in the history of the Canavese region.

Over the centuries, the castle underwent several transformations, most notably in the 19th century when architect Alfredo d’Andrade restored parts of the complex, combining historic preservation with elegant new architectural elements. The result is a unique blend of medieval and later-period styles. Castello di Rivara is also renowned for its cultural significance.

It became a gathering place for the artists of the Rivara School in the 19th century and later developed into a center for contemporary art, hosting exhibitions, artist residencies, and cultural events. Today, it is valued both for its historical architecture and its contribution to Italy’s artistic heritage.
