Castello di Roccaguglielma
Italy, Italy
Castello di Roccaguglielma is a medieval fortress that dominates the hilltop village of Esperia in the Lazio region.
Built around the early 12th century by the Norman noble Guglielmo di Blosseville, it occupied a strategic position controlling important routes between the interior and the coast. Over the centuries, the castle was held by powerful families including the Spinelli, Della Rovere, and Farnese, and it experienced wars, earthquakes, and periods of decline.
Although now largely in ruins, its towers, walls, and commanding location still convey its former importance and offer impressive views of the surrounding countryside.
