Castello di Sacuidic
Italy, Italy
Castello di Sacuidic is a medieval castle ruin located near Forni di Sopra in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
Built around the late 12th century on a strategic route along the Tagliamento River, it once overlooked an important passage used by merchants, pilgrims, and soldiers traveling between the Adriatic coast and northern Europe. Archaeological discoveries suggest that the castle was destroyed by fire in the late 13th century, possibly to end an illegal counterfeiting operation conducted within its walls.
Today, the restored ruins and archaeological site offer visitors a fascinating glimpse into medieval life, set against the beautiful backdrop of the Dolomite landscape.
