Castello di Sammezzano is a remarkable historic palace near Reggello in Tuscany, famous for its extraordinary Moorish Revival architecture and richly decorated interiors.

Originally built in the early 17th century, it was transformed between the mid-1800s and 1889 by Ferdinando Panciatichi Ximenes d’Aragona into one of Italy’s most unique and imaginative architectural masterpieces. The castle contains 365 rooms, each decorated with vibrant colors, intricate geometric patterns, elaborate stucco work, and influences inspired by Islamic and Oriental art. It is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of Orientalist architecture in Europe.

Surrounded by a vast historic park filled with exotic trees and rare plants, Sammezzano combines architectural beauty with a unique landscape setting. Although it spent many years closed and in decline, it remains one of Tuscany’s most celebrated historic landmarks and is currently undergoing restoration efforts to preserve its exceptional heritage.
