Castello di San Colombano al Lambro is a historic fortress located on a hill overlooking the town of San Colombano al Lambro, southeast of Milan. 

Its origins may date back to the early Middle Ages, and it was already an important defensive stronghold by the 10th century, protecting key routes and nearby territories. The castle gained particular importance after Emperor Frederick Barbarossa rebuilt and expanded it in 1164, recognizing its strategic position between Milan and Piacenza.

Later, the Visconti rulers of Milan strengthened the fortress with new defensive structures, while subsequent owners, including the Carthusian monks and the Belgioioso family, adapted parts of it for residential use. Today, the castle remains one of the most significant medieval landmarks in the region. Its imposing walls, towers, historic courtyards, and surrounding park reflect centuries of military, political, and noble history. Parts of the complex can be visited, making it a popular cultural attraction and a symbol of the town’s heritage.
