Castello di Santo Stefano d'Aveto
Santo Stefano d'Aveto, Italy, Italy
Castello di Santo Stefano d'Aveto, also known as the Malaspina-Doria Castle, is a well-preserved medieval fortress located in the heart of Santo Stefano d'Aveto in Liguria.
Originally built in the 12th century by the Malaspina family, it occupied a strategic position controlling important routes across the Apennines toward Emilia and the Po Valley. Over the centuries, the castle passed through the hands of powerful families including the Fieschi and Doria, and it was expanded into a substantial fortified residence.
Today, it is one of the most significant castles in inland Liguria, admired for its imposing architecture, historical importance, and picturesque setting surrounded by mountains and open meadows.
