Castello di Sassoforte is a medieval fortress ruin located on Mount Sassoforte near Roccastrada in southern Tuscany.

Originally controlled by the powerful Aldobrandeschi family, it occupied a strategic position overlooking the surrounding hills and valleys and played an important role in local medieval politics and defense. During the 14th century, the castle came under the influence of Siena and was briefly developed into a small settlement.

Over time, however, it lost its military importance and was gradually abandoned, leaving behind impressive ruins that reflect its former significance. Today, visitors can explore the remains of its walls, towers, and fortifications while enjoying panoramic views of the Tuscan countryside. Surrounded by woodland and archaeological sites, Castello di Sassoforte is valued for its atmospheric setting and its connection to the medieval history of the Maremma region.
