Castello di Stella is a medieval fortress ruin located on a hill overlooking the historic village of San Giovanni in Stella, in the Liguria region of Italy.

The castle occupied a strategic position between nearby valleys and helped control important communication and defensive routes in the area. Its origins may date back as early as the Byzantine period, although it was certainly rebuilt during the 12th century. Throughout its history, the castle was involved in conflicts between Savona and Genoa, suffering destruction and reconstruction multiple times before being abandoned in the second half of the 15th century.

It also hosted Pope Innocent IV in 1244 during his journey to the Council of Lyon. Today, only a few remains are visible, including parts of a tower and sections of the defensive walls. Despite its ruined state, the site remains an important historical landmark, offering insight into Liguria’s medieval past and attractive views of the surrounding countryside.
