Castello di Torniella is a medieval castle that crowns the historic village of Torniella in Tuscany’s Grosseto province.

Dating back to at least the 11th century, it was originally owned by the powerful Aldobrandeschi family and occupied a strategic position overlooking the Farma River valley and important routes through the region. The castle was besieged and taken by the Republic of Siena in the 13th century, after which its walls and fortifications were rebuilt and strengthened.

Although much of the original fortress has been altered over time, impressive remains of the castle and sections of the medieval walls are still visible in the highest part of the village. Today, Castello di Torniella is a symbol of the village’s rich history and medieval heritage. Surrounded by forests and nature reserves, it offers visitors a charming atmosphere and scenic views that reflect the character of Tuscany’s historic countryside.
