Castello di Vigoleno
Vigoleno, Province of Piacenza, Italy, Italy
Castello di Vigoleno is a beautifully preserved medieval castle that forms the heart of the fortified village of Vigoleno in the Province of Piacenza.
Built between the 10th and 14th centuries on a ridge overlooking the surrounding valleys, it was strategically positioned to control important routes between Piacenza and Parma. Over the centuries, it was owned by several powerful families, most notably the Scotti Douglas family, and was repeatedly fortified and rebuilt during regional conflicts.
Today, the castle remains remarkably intact, featuring imposing walls, a massive keep, battlements, and elegant historic rooms, making it one of the finest examples of a medieval fortified village in Italy.
