Castello Gonzaga is a historic fortress in Volta Mantovana, a town in the Province of Mantua, northern Italy.

Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, possibly as early as the 11th century, when it served as an important defensive stronghold controlling routes between Mantua and the Lake Garda area. Over the centuries, the castle came under the control of several ruling families, including the Gonzaga dynasty, who transformed parts of the complex and helped shape the town’s development.

Although its military role gradually declined, significant sections of the walls, towers, and fortifications have survived. Today, Castello Gonzaga is one of Volta Mantovana’s most important historical landmarks, offering visitors a glimpse into the region’s medieval past and beautiful views of the surrounding morainic hills and countryside.
