Castello Malatestiano, also known as the Rocca Malatestiana of Santarcangelo di Romagna, is a historic fortress that stands atop the town’s hill and has origins dating back to at least the 9th century.

It became an important stronghold of the powerful Malatesta family, who controlled the area from the late 13th to the 15th century and reshaped the castle to meet evolving military needs. Over the centuries, the fortress witnessed conflicts involving figures such as Federico da Montefeltro and Cesare Borgia and passed through the hands of various rulers and noble families.

Today, it remains one of the most iconic landmarks of Santarcangelo di Romagna, admired for its medieval character, commanding views, and connection to the rich history of Romagna.
