Castello Masciantonio is a historic castle that dominates the hilltop town of Casoli in Italy’s Abruzzo region.

Its origins date back to the Norman period, when a defensive tower was built in the 11th or 12th century on the site of an earlier watchtower. Over the centuries, the fortress was expanded by noble families such as the Orsini and later transformed into an elegant ducal residence. The castle is known for its distinctive pentagonal tower, medieval and Renaissance architectural features, and commanding views of the surrounding valleys.

It was owned by several important aristocratic families before passing to the Masciantonio family, whose name it bears today. The famous poet Gabriele d’Annunzio was also a guest at the castle. Today, Castello Masciantonio is one of Casoli’s most important landmarks. Restored and open to visitors, it houses cultural and museum spaces and serves as a symbol of the town’s rich medieval, artistic, and historical heritage.
