Castello Medievale di Pereto is a well-preserved medieval fortress overlooking the Piana del Cavaliere in the Abruzzo region.

Its origins date back to the 10th century, when a defensive tower was built to control the ancient Via Tiburtina Valeria, an important route through central Italy. Over the centuries, the castle was expanded with additional towers and walls, becoming a powerful fortified complex. The castle passed through the hands of several noble families, including the Orsini and Colonna families, and suffered damage from earthquakes, particularly the devastating 1915 Avezzano earthquake.

In the 20th century, it underwent a major restoration that earned international recognition for preserving its historic character. Today, the castle is one of Pereto’s most important landmarks. With its imposing towers, defensive walls, and panoramic views, it offers visitors a remarkable glimpse into the military and noble history of medieval Abruzzo.
