Castello Nuovo, also known as the Visconti Castle, is a well-preserved 14th-century fortress located on the Castle Hill above Grosio in northern Lombardy.

It was built between about 1350 and 1375 by the Visconti family of Milan to strengthen control over the strategically important Valtellina valley and its trade routes. Designed for military defense, the castle featured a double ring of defensive walls, a moat, and a strong central keep, making it one of the most significant medieval fortifications in the area.

Unlike many other castles of the period, it was never involved in major battles or sieges and has survived in relatively good condition. Today, Castello Nuovo is part of the Rock Engravings Park of Grosio and Grosotto. Visitors can explore its impressive ruins, learn about the region’s medieval history, and enjoy spectacular views over the Valtellina valley and the surrounding Alps.
