Castello Quadrio
Chiuro, Italy, Italy
Castello Quadrio, also known as the Castello di Stefano Quadrio, is a historic 15th-century castle located in the heart of Chiuro in Valtellina, Lombardy.
It was built by Stefano Quadrio, a military commander who served the Duke of Milan, and became a symbol of the power and influence of the Quadrio family in the region. Although altered over the centuries, the castle still preserves features of its fortified past, including parts of a tower, defensive openings, and extensive stone cellars carved into the rock.
These underground spaces once stored provisions and wine and remain among the castle’s most distinctive elements. Today, Castello Quadrio is best known as the headquarters of the Nino Negri winery, one of Valtellina’s most renowned wine producers. The castle combines medieval history with the region’s long wine-making tradition, making it an important cultural landmark in Chiuro.
