Castello Ruffo, commonly known as the Ruffo Castle of Scilla, is a historic fortress perched on a rocky promontory overlooking the Strait of Messina in Calabria.

Its origins date back to ancient times, with fortifications on the site existing as early as the 5th century BC, making it one of the region’s most historically significant landmarks. Throughout its long history, the castle was occupied and expanded by Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Normans, Aragonese rulers, and the powerful Ruffo family, who gave the fortress its current name.

Its strategic location allowed it to control maritime routes and defend the coastline for centuries. Today, the castle is a symbol of Scilla and one of Calabria’s most recognizable monuments.
