Castello Sarriod de La Tour
Italy, Italy
Castello Sarriod de La Tour is a well-preserved medieval castle located in Saint-Pierre in Italy’s Aosta Valley.
Originally built between the 10th and 13th centuries, it served as the residence of the influential Sarriod de La Tour family for nearly 900 years and gradually expanded from a simple fortified tower into a large noble residence. The castle is especially famous for its unique “Hall of Heads,” a room decorated with 171 carved wooden figures depicting people, animals, and mythical creatures.
It also contains a historic chapel with medieval frescoes, making it one of the region’s most important artistic and architectural treasures. Today, the castle is open to visitors and offers a fascinating look at medieval life in the Aosta Valley. Its combination of historic architecture, decorative artwork, and long family history makes it one of the area's most distinctive landmarks.
