Castello Spinola
Isola del Cantone, Italy, Italy
Castello Spinola, located in Isola del Cantone in Liguria, is a medieval castle that was built in the 13th century and served as the seat of the powerful Spinola family.
Originally designed as a defensive stronghold, it also functioned as the administrative center of the family's feudal territories for several centuries. The complex features fortified walls, a circular tower, and a distinctive palace-like layout that reflects its gradual transformation from a military fortress into a noble residence and governmental seat.
Major modifications and expansions were carried out over the centuries, particularly during the 17th century. After the decline of the feudal system, the castle lost its defensive role and was partly converted into private residences. Today, it remains one of Isola del Cantone’s most important historic landmarks.
