Castello Superiore
Italy, Italy
Castello Superiore is a medieval hilltop fortress in Marostica, Veneto, overlooking the town and its famous walled center.
Built during the 14th century under the Scaligeri rulers of Verona, it stands on Pausolino Hill and is connected to the lower castle by historic defensive walls that remain one of Marostica's most distinctive features. Originally designed as a powerful military stronghold with four corner towers and a central keep, much of the structure is now in ruins, though significant sections of the walls and fortifications survive.
Its strategic position allowed it to protect the town and monitor the surrounding countryside. Today, Castello Superiore is a popular landmark known for its history and spectacular panoramic views over Marostica and the surrounding Veneto landscape. Visitors often walk up to the castle along the historic paths and walls to enjoy the scenery and experience an important piece of the region’s medieval heritage.
