Castello Svevo di Bari, also known as the Norman-Swabian Castle, is one of the most important historic landmarks in Bari, overlooking the edge of the city’s old quarter.

Originally built by the Normans in the 12th century, it was later rebuilt and strengthened by Emperor Frederick II in the 13th century after earlier damage, giving the fortress much of its current appearance. The castle played a key defensive role for centuries and was expanded by later rulers, including the Aragonese and the Sforza family.

Surrounded by a moat and protected by massive walls and towers, it served both as a military stronghold and as a noble residence. Today, Castello Svevo di Bari is a well-preserved monument that hosts exhibitions and cultural events.
