Castello Visconteo di Binasco
Binasco, Italy, Italy
Castello Visconteo di Binasco is a medieval castle located in the town of Binasco, south of Milan.
Built between the late 13th and early 14th centuries by the powerful Visconti family, it occupied a strategic position along the important road connecting Milan and Pavia, helping defend the region and control local trade routes. The castle is best known for its connection to Filippo Maria Visconti and the tragic story of his wife, Beatrice di Tenda, who was imprisoned and executed there in 1418 after being accused of adultery.
This event became one of the most famous episodes in the castle’s history. Originally surrounded by a moat and protected by corner towers, the castle was damaged by fires and military conflicts but was later restored. Today, it serves as a civic and cultural center, housing municipal offices and a library, while remaining one of the most important historic landmarks in the area.
