Castle Jamshidi
Nimvar, Iran, Iran
Castle Jamshidi, also known as Qaleh‑e Jamshidi or “Gabri” (Fire‑Temple Castle), is a historic fortress in the town of Nimvar, in Mahallat County, Markazi Province, Iran.
The castle’s exact construction date is unclear, but many researchers associate it with the Sasanian period, seeing it as a strong defensive garrison designed to protect the local population and control the strategic Nimvar route.
The structure is built on a hill with a deep surrounding ditch and a uniquely fortified entrance tower, above which once stood a firing‑platform for about twenty archers, and it also features underground tunnels that, according to local legends, once linked the castle to nearby farmland and allowed people to smuggle supplies during long sieges.
The castle is noted for its unusual door and interior layout, and though parts of it are now damaged or in ruins, it remains one of the most distinctive and historically significant fortifications in the Mahallat region.
