Castle Mourchekhort
Iran, Iran
Castle Mourchekhort, also known as Murcheh Khort or Moorche Khort Castle, is a vast historical brick fortress covering 15,000 square meters with tall towers, located 50 kilometers north of Isfahan in central Iran.
Dating possibly to the 9th century Hijri or earlier than the Safavid era, it began as a military stronghold for rebels before evolving into a self-sufficient residential citadel with three gates, eight guard towers, and internal passages.
Renowned for its unique architecture and urban planning, it ranks as one of Iran's most significant castles after Arg-e Bam, though erosion from adobe and brick construction now threatens its preservation.
