Castle of Lanciano
Italy, Italy
The Castle of Lanciano is a historic fortress and noble residence located near Castelraimondo in Italy’s Marche region.
Originally built in the late 14th century by the Varano family to defend the northeastern frontier of the Duchy of Camerino, it occupied a strategic position along important roads and the Potenza River. In the late 15th century, Giovanna Malatesta transformed the fortress into a more elegant Renaissance manor, and later owners, especially the Bandini family, further enlarged and embellished it.
Over the centuries, the castle evolved from a military stronghold into a refined aristocratic residence surrounded by a large park. Today, the castle is admired for its blend of medieval and Renaissance architecture, including its towers, courtyard, frescoed rooms, and historic interiors. It remains one of the most significant heritage sites in the area and reflects centuries of noble and regional history.
