The Castle of Oria, often called the Swabian Castle of Oria, stands on the highest hill of the town of Oria in Puglia and occupies a site that has been fortified since ancient times.

Built on the area of a former Messapian acropolis, the castle was expanded and largely rebuilt between 1225 and 1233 under Emperor Frederick II, making it one of the most important medieval fortresses in southern Italy. The castle is known for its distinctive triangular layout and its three main towers, which were added during different historical periods.

Thanks to its strategic position, it played a key defensive role and successfully withstood several sieges throughout its history. Today, the castle remains one of Oria’s most recognizable landmarks. Its imposing walls, medieval architecture, and panoramic views over the surrounding countryside make it a symbol of the town’s rich history and cultural heritage.
