Castle Villa Ludwigshöhe
Edenkoben, Germany, Germany
Castle Villa Ludwigshöhe is a neoclassical summer villa overlooking Edenkoben in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, built between 1846 and 1852 for Bavarian King Ludwig I on the edge of the Palatinate Forest with panoramic views over vineyards and the Rhine plain.
Designed by court architect Friedrich von Gärtner—inspired by Italian villas and ancient models, later completed by Leo von Klenze after Gärtner's death—it comprises the main Königsbau residence, Prinzenbau for staff, and Marstall stables around a courtyard, featuring opulent interiors with frescoes, mosaics, and hardwood floors.
Used by Ludwig for summer retreats until his 1868 death, it now functions as a museum showcasing 19th-century art including Max Slevogt's works and modern ceramics, drawing visitors to its preserved royal elegance.
