Cathedral of Dakar

Dakar, Senegal

---

The Cathedral of Dakar, officially known as the Our Lady of Victories Cathedral, is one of the most important Christian landmarks in Dakar and the seat of the Archdiocese of Dakar.

Located in the city’s Plateau district, it serves as the main Roman Catholic church in Senegal. Constructed between 1924 and 1936, the cathedral is notable for its striking architecture, which blends European, Byzantine, and regional influences. Its twin towers, large central dome, and spacious interior make it one of Dakar’s most recognizable historic buildings.

Beyond its religious role, the cathedral is an important cultural and historical monument that reflects Senegal’s diverse heritage and tradition of interfaith harmony. It remains a place of worship, community gatherings, and major national events, attracting both pilgrims and visitors interested in the history of Dakar.
