Kaolack Mosque

Kaolack, Senegal

---

The Kaolack Mosque, often referred to as the Grand Mosque of Kaolack or Medina Baye Mosque, is one of the most important Islamic landmarks in Senegal.

Located in the Medina Baye district of Kaolack, it serves as a major spiritual center of the Tijaniyya Sufi order and is closely associated with the influential religious leader Sheikh Ibrahim Niass. The mosque is known for its impressive architecture, featuring a large central dome, tall minarets, and elegant green-and-white decorations inspired by North African Islamic design.

Over the years, it has been expanded to accommodate the growing number of worshippers and pilgrims who visit from across West Africa and beyond. As a major place of worship and pilgrimage, the mosque attracts thousands of visitors during religious celebrations such as the Mawlid (Gamou). Its religious significance, architectural beauty, and connection to the legacy of Sheikh Ibrahim Niass make it one of the most important cultural and spiritual sites in Senegal.
